I think the authors purpose is to persuade and entertain. I think it is to persuade because the author is trying to let you know that if a 101 year old great great grandma isn't scared of anything then you should not be either. I also think it is to entertain you about a 101 year old grandma who thinks she can do just about anything in the world.

I agree that it is to entertain, but I disagree that it is to persuade because it did not make me really want to go paragliding on my one-hundred and first birthday. I agree to entertain because it was kind of funny how a 101 year old great great grandmother went paragliding.
